How I Lost My First 6 KGs

To be honest, weight loss for big girls is a bit of an emotional affair.

For me, it was the worst thing ever when one of my boyfriend’s friends (after having had too much to drink), made a remark about the fact that I should lose weight to make him happy IN FRONT OF A TABLE OF MEN WITH SLIM WIVES. Yes, what a schmuck.

But I had to face the fact. Regardless of what I thought of Mr. Schmuck, I was a 5’7″ Asian woman in my early thirties, and I was 84kgs. That’s the heaviest I have ever been in my life. Here’s the proof!

I had to do something about the fact that I was unhealthy. If I wasn’t careful, I’d get diabetes because mom was a Type 2 diabetic.

So began a journey of denial, self-loathing, self loving, but mostly I educated myself on every imaginable weight loss program out there.

From the Paleo diet to Atkins, to glycemic index diets, you name it. I read more than 100 books on health, wellness and weight loss.

Then I made one decision from the sum of my research.

I eliminated refined carbs, gluten and cane sugar from my daily diet.

Sure, I walked a little, skipped some rope like an elephant on protest, but mostly the 6 kgs weight went because I stopped eating bread and noodles made from wheat flour – and no sugar.

Tomorrow I’ll share some other things with you. Don’t give up! You can do it!

So happy for you Jackie =) I’m at my heaviest now too (85kg) and taking smaller portions of rice has been helping. I love my carbs. Can’t live without ’em. Haha!

Thanks Vivian. The first thing I did was cut out all wheat-based products and sugar. Cookies, cakes, mee, udon, pizza, breads, dumplings, pao, pasta, friend batter, all of that gone!

Yup, I work out at least 4-5 times a week! It’s really important to keep your basal metabolism rate high and exercising will help you burn fat for a few more hours even after you’ve stopped!

Hey Girl! You’re looking really fab. Keep up the great work! Good carbs is the way to go, a lot of people wrongly believe in cutting it out entirely. I eat oats for breakfast every single morning. It’s an amazing way to start the day!

Hai Jackie! I just found your blog and it contains a lot of useful information to me. I’m currently having plan to losing weights, but wondering what I should eat throughout the day. having oats as my breakfast, but how for the remaining day? Would you mind to share with me what kinds of food do you eat everyday to reach the goal even faster?

Hi Gilbert, welcome to Lifebod.com! Stick around coz’ I’ll be posting a lot of tips in the coming future.

I usually do oats or yogurt and fruit in the morning. If I had a big meal the night before, I just do fruit. But I also drink a glass of juice every morning to pack in the vitamins and minerals.

For lunch, I try to stay with clean protein like chicken, fish, lean beef. I try to stay away from pork, but if it’s the only option I’ll have it and remove all the surrounding fat. Meaning just pure animal proteins – no sausages, hams, and other processed meats and food. I eat that with a lot of vegetables, and am a little stricter on my carb intake. I don’t eliminate carbs from my diet, but I eat a few bites and leave everything. I hardly eat fried foods. I go with steamed, boiled, or roasted most of the time.

Carbs I don’t eat – anything made from wheat flour. Carbs I do eat – meehoon, tanghoon, sweet potatoes, brown rice. The idea is to keep your GI/GL low so that you don’t cause insulin spikes in the body which makes it hard for you to lose weight.

I don’t drink soft drinks. Only 0 calorie natural teas like green tea, chamomile, peppermint, and water.

Apply the same principles to your dinner too. Lots of greens, moderate protein, minimal carbs.

And I stay away from chemicals! Hope that helps! 🙂
